Screenwriting workshop set
Professional screenplay and television writer Gigi New will present "How to Craft a Screenplay" on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Lamb Room. New will outlines the process of turning a storyline, idea or piece of writing into a viable, marketable screenplay.
New is a film and television writer, as well as a consultant to major names in the industry. She has written more than a dozen scripts and worked on sit-coms.
She began her career as an assistant on "Everybody Loves Raymond" and moved on to writing for the award-winning Nickelodeon family series "The Brothers Garcia." She has since worked for Gavin Polone of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Gilmore Girls," Wally Wallodarsky, and Maya Forbes of The Larry Sanders Show on the FOX series "The Ortega's," and has consulted with writer Garrison Keillor on a screenplay. She has developed features for studios and independent producers, including Aqua Entertainment, Gunn Films, The Walt Disney Company, Maya Entertainment, Avalanche Entertainment and Underground Films. She has written a feature film, "Charmed and Dangerous," which is to be produced next spring.
Lehane to discuss `Live by Night'
Best-selling author Dennis Lehane will introduce his latest novel, "Lie by Night," on Monday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room.
Lehane is the author of "The New York Times" best seller and PEN/Winship award finalist, Mystic River, later made into an Academy Award-winning film of the same title, and "Shutter Island," and seven others.
He was born and raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, is a graduate of Eckerd College and the graduate program of writing at Florida International University in Miami. He has taught writing at many colleges, including advanced fiction at Harvard University.
