Chris Schipper, president of the New Canaan Land Trust, will discuss the organization's growth and impact at the New Canaan American Association of University Women chapter's meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at Waveny House.

The trust owns or has conservation easements over 365 acres in New Canaan, including 56 acres of open space acquired after a merger with the New Canaan Audubon Society.

Although the majority of the properties are too wet or fragile for pedestrian access, two large parcels offer hiking trails open to the public. Last year, the organization opened the Nancy Watson Symington Wildlife Sanctuary, a 45-acre parcel with public access. Former resident Ann Hemingway Symington donated the property in 1995. Last year, the organization also made the 10-acre W. Pritchard Browne Wildlife Sanctuary available for public use. The property offers a wetland walkway, elevation changes and a view of the reservoir and fern meadows.
