The students of New Canaan Community Nursery School participated in their first ever "baby drive" to help the new and expectant mothers of need from the Malta House Organization in Norwalk.

The students made lists of items babies and new mothers could use and spent six weeks collecting diapers, formula, baby clothes and toys.

"Children benefit from the self-esteem and sense of belonging that comes with contributing to their own community through a service project," Pamela Turner, the school's director, said. "It was wonderful to see the students embrace helping other families."

Each month, NCCNS paricipates in a different community service drive to teach the children about altruism.

Malta House is located at 5 Prowitt Street Norwalk. Visit www.maltahouse.org.
