The New Canaan 11-year-old Cal Ripkin baseball team played four games in the state tournament in New Fairfield over the weekend.
After starting the tournament with an 11-0 loss against Oxford, New Canaan scored a 3-0 win over Danbury. Timmy Ferm pitched five innings with seven strikeouts, and Andrew Jordan pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Christian Cassenelli had a double and an RBI and Andrew Jordan doubled and scored a run on Daniel Shullman's single. Shullman collected two of his team's three RBI.
Next, New Canaan picked up a 9-7 win over South Meridan. Jordan pitched four innings with four strikeouts. Ferm pitched one inning and Luigi Derubis got the save.
Oliver Jardiem and Shullman both made circus catches to hold off South Meridan from scoring with the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings. Jardiem went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Cassenelli was 2-for-4 with a triple. Jordan went 4-for-4 with three RBI. Shullman was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Ferm finished 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. Jackson McManus and Jake Sloane were both 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Sloane caught the last out of the game on a deep drive by South Meridan.
New Canaan was elminated by West Hartford 9-3.
