The New Canaan Nature Center is hosting its sixth annual Winter Wonderland from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

The event will feature horse-drawn carriage rides through the meadows, a model train display depicting the town, a visit with Santa Claus with photos taken by Michael Lasky, caroling and chestnut roasting around the open fire and, new this year, a gingerbread house decorating contest complete with "celebrity" judges.

"Winter Wonderland is celebrating its sixth year at the nature center and this is by far one of our favorite community events," Geoff McCann, education program director at the NCNC, said. "The warm and inviting spirit on that day is infectious. Where else are you going to see Santa arrive by horse-drawn wagon through the woods? The goal is to encourage families in the community to view and use the nature center as a place to celebrate the season inside and out."

Admission for adults is free; for member children, $8 and for nonmembers $12.
