Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials, an educational program for local land use officials that addresses the relationship of land use to natural resource protection, will hold a land use committee workshop and training session Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m.
University of Connecticut and Town Attorney Chris Jarboe will host the workshop, titled "Roles & Responsibilities of Land Use Commissions," which is sponsored by New Canaan's Planning and Zoning department.
The training will consist of two parts:
1) The Roles and Responsibilities of Land Use Commissions examines the duties, options and interactions of local land use commissions, including planning, zoning, appeals, conservation, inland wetlands and economic development. Emphasis is on the enabling legislation behind the commissions, as well as significant court cases that affect decision-making.
2) Jarboe will discuss FOIA and Ex Partee communication.
The workshop will be held in the Town Hall auditorium.
