NCPS' assistant finance director to resign

Citing unwelcome changes, New Canaan Public Schools' Assistant Director of Finance and Operations Arlene Riverso is resigning, she announced in a letter last week.
"Changes in my role within the district and job responsibilities that did not correspond to the job description presented to me in July have resulted in a job that is no longer in alignment with my goals for career growth or long-term career objectives and, as such, I feel it is in my best interest at this time to seek new opportunities," Riverso wrote.
Human Resources Director Gary Kass wouldn't comment on the specifics of Riverso's motives, but, he said, "everyone has the right to pursue other career opportunities."
"I'd certainly like to thank Arlene for all of her good work at New Canaan Public Schools, and I wish her all the best," Kass said.
Riverso, who started working for the district in October 2012, would not give details on her resignation because she said she wants "to leave without burning any bridges."
Her last day will be Tuesday, May 27.
Riverso's job title was changed from budget director to assistant director of finance and operations in July, when, she said, she was assigned new responsibilities.
She noted she was glad to help the Board of Education improve the budgeting process, which she said has become "more transparent and directive and allowed for more accountability."
"I am thankful for the support I received from BOE and town board members during my time with New Canaan Public Schools and am appreciative of the opportunities I was given to assist the BOE in breaking new ground with regards to budget transparency and reporting," she said in her letter.
Her resignation does not need Board of Education action, according to Kass, who said he'd soon start looking for a replacement.
Nancy Harris, interim director of finance and operations, did not return multiple calls for comment.
