NEW CANAAN — James Zambarano, New Canaan High School’s career and technical education department chair and technology education teacher, has been honored as the Connecticut Engineering Education Association Teacher of the Year award.

CTEEA President William McDonough presented Zambarano with the award at the New Canaan Board of Education meeting Feb. 6.

“He is an exemplary model in terms of what we’re looking for in (technical education) teachers across the state of Connecticut,” McDonough said.

Zambarano is one of 50 teachers being awarded this year and will be recognized at a national technical education conference in Dallas in March.

The board expressed its congratulations to Zambarano on his award.

“Jim has been instrumental,” said New Canaan Superintendent Bryan Luizzi. “For years and years, he’s been one of those faculty members who will just solve problems and get things done.”

“Having a child who’s had you as an educator, I’m so thrilled to see you get this,” added school board Chair Dionna Carlson. “It’s well deserved.
