The New Canaan High School Band will be performing with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Ave.

The concert, Gustav Mahler's First Symphony, is the opening performance of the orchestra's 2013-14 season. The first half of the concert will be a "Mahler One Immersion," an exploration of the sources Mahler used in his symphony.

For example, Mahler borrows a funeral march from Donizetti's Dom Sebastien. Members of the NCHS Band, under the direction of Scott Cranston, as well as choristers from Staples High School and the Norwalk Community College Choir, will perform alongside the NSO, marching as the mourners from the opera.
