Family and friends attended the dedication May 10 of Joan Sargent's garden within the George Lee Memorial Garden on Chichester Road.
The garden was made possible by memorial donations from friends of Sargent, a longtime New Canaan Beautification League member and master gardener. Sargent knew Lee when he was tending his garden and collecting cultivars of azaleas and rhododendrons, daffodils and primroses from growers he knew. Sargent continued the mission at Lee garden after he left it to the NCBL.
Sargent and Ann Gillerlain were instrumental in the garden's continuance. Sargent also contributed a column to the league's monthly newsletter with information about caring for home gardens.
The George Lee Memorial Garden features azaleas, rhododendrons, primroses, jack-in-the-pulpit, blue bells, phlox divaricata, bleeding hearts and columbines.
