NEW CANAAN — A workman attempting to visit an annual customer prompted concerns about scams in New Canaan.
On Tuesday, April 4, the workman went to a residence on Bittersweet Lane where he usually performed annual service work. Once at the property, however, he realized the current owners were not his customers and that they had likely moved to a different residence, police said.
The current owners, worried the workman was attempting to scam them, contacted the New Canaan police. The following day, the workman explained the situation to the police, calming concerns about fake “workmen” in the area.
While this incident was caused by an honest mistake, New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said, residents are still encouraged to vet all workmen before they are allowed in their residence.
