A car reported stolen from a Mill Port Avenue home in November was found near that residence Monday, New Canaan police said.
The silver 2010 Nissan Rogue was first seen in Pelham, N.Y., where local police said they saw it being operated by "a distressed woman who may be in need of psychiatric care," police said.
The woman's mother called the Pelham police saying her daughter was "in need of care and was driving that vehicle" back to New Canaan, according to the report.
New Canaan police said it located the car Monday morning at a location "very close by" to where it was taken.
The woman, who police believe is in her 50s, was taken to the hospital, according to the report. Police said she was "so distressed" that she might not even be arrested.
The SUV was reported stolen while the residents were away on vacation Nov. 16 to 24, according to police.
Police also recovered clothing clothes and a leather bag that had also been reported stolen.
