Passengers still need a ticket to ride Metro-North Railroad trains this last day of 2010, but they'll have a hard time finding a place to buy one.

That's because ticket machines at all of the local stations, excluding Grand Central Terminal in New York City, are not accepting credit or debit for ticket purchases.

Metro-North advises riders to buy tickets at the station or onboard the train using cash. The railroad fails to mention, however, that nearly all the stations on its New Haven Line no longer have ticket agents on duty to handle in-station sales.
