This year marks the 75th anniversary of the parkway.
In recognition of its unique historic and cultural contributions, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a State and National Scenic Byway.
The preservation of the roadway is the mission of the Merritt Parkway Conservancy. Maranis will describe the construction of the parkway and the role of the conservancy in maintaining it and protecting it from encroachment.
He will also address the many issues and challenges facing the parkway.
