Shahram Farzam, 49, of 11 Old Lantern Place, Norwalk, was arrested Feb. 19 on charges of two counts of possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, misuse of license plates, operating an unregistered vehicle and having no insurance.

When Farzam was traveling westbound on Carter Street at 7 p.m., a Darien officer on patrol noticed the marker plate lights of his vehicle were out, police said. The officer then checked the license plate number in his computer and found no records, according to the report.

Police said the officer stopped the vehicle near Long Lots Road and approached the driver to question him about the license plate. Farzam said his car was not registered and the plate belonged to his wife's vehicle, according to police.

When the officer asked Farzam to step out of the vehicle, he saw a black strap weapon, also known as Blackjack, on the door pocket, police said. Upon further search of the vehicle, the officer also found a police-style baton, according to the report. Farzam told police he didn't know the objects were there.

Police said it is unlawful to carry any type of weapon in a motor vehicle, unless it is registered.

Farzam was issued misdemeanor charges for the vehicle violations. For the weapon-related charge, he posted $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 4.
