Elliott Maynes, the New Canaan man charged last month with second-degree possession of child pornography, appeared Tuesday morning in Stamford Superior Court, where his case was continued to Sept. 26.

Maynes, 23, of 283 Buttery Road, was arrested two separate times July 15 on charges of violation of probation and possession of child pornography. His attorney, Frederic Ury, asked the court Tuesday to combine the two charges against Maynes.

The arrest warrant states that Maynes had 23 suspected child pornographic images and two child erotic images on his laptop. According to state law, a person is guilty of possessing child pornography in the second degree when such person knowingly possesses 20 or more, but fewer than 50, visual depictions of child pornography.

Maynes was first arrested in 2012 when P.C. Richard & Son technicians in Norwalk contacted police after discovering child pornography while repairing his laptop, according to the warrant. Maynes was placed on a five-year adult probation, which prohibited him from accessing adult pornographic sites, sites that contain sexually explicit or stimulating material, and possessing such material on any storage media, police said.

During an unannounced search of his computer in September 2013, adult probation officers discovered Maynes had accessed adult porn sites and had images of child pornography as well as more than 1,000 adult or animated pornographic images on his laptop, according to the warrant.
