An unidentified male attempted to buy $500 worth of gifts cards from Walgreens on Pine Street with five counterfeit $100 bills on Tuesday, Jan. 8, according to police.
At about 8:30 p.m., police said the man, who is about 5-foot-8-inches tall and in his mid-20s, entered the store and asked to have a total of $500 put on several gift cards. Police said the cashier immediately had suspicions of whether the bills were real and ran them through a machine, which verified that all of the bills were fake. When the cashier alerted the suspect that the bills were imitations, the man exited the store, driving away in a white Kia with New Jersey marker plates, said police.
Police are investigating the incident.
