A 54-year-old Smith Ridge Lane resident reported to police on Aug. 20 that someone had gone through his mail while the family was on vacation.
Police said the man had the mail put on hold with the post office for the duration of the vacation, to be delivered Aug. 16, which it was. When he checked the box he noticed several pieces of mail were torn open and more were strewn about the area, said police.
The only item known to have been stolen was a DVD, valued at $20, though more could have been taken, according to the report.
Police noted similar incidents recently have occurred in Westport and Bridgeport.
