Actress Michele LaRue will return to New Canaan Library at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, for a performance of "Gettysburg: One Woman's War."

LaRue's performance, which will take place in the Adrian Lamb Room, honors the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, delivered in November 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln in the midst of the Civil War.

"Gettysburg: One Woman's War" features dramatizations of three stories from Elsie Singmaster's historical fiction, "Gettysburg: Stories of Memory, Grief and Greatness." Singmaster's exploration of the physical and emotional toll of the war on American citizens is interpreted by LaRue in her performance.

LaRue performs often with New Jersey's East Lynne Theater Co., which specializes in American plays of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Many of her stage credits include works by or based on William Dean Howells, Henry James, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

She is a member of Actors' Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA, and,

as a writer and editor, of Drama Desk,

an organization of New York theater critics.

LaRue closed the library's Summer Read 2013 program with the literary dramatization, "Tales Well Told."
