New Canaan's Kiwanis Club donated more than $15,000 to local nonprofit organizations.

"We are so pleased that with the help of the community, our volunteers, and corporate sponsors we are able to give back to such worthy local causes," Stacey Hafen, club president, said.

New this year is a grant to the Silvermine Arts Center for the David Borglum Scholarship. David Borglum is a grandson of Solon H. Borglum, who was a sculptor from Wilton and the great-nephew of Gutzon Borglum, who carved presidential busts on Mt. Rushmore. Many items of Borglum family art have been donated to Silvermine and the community.

Among the recipients are ABC House, Arts for Healing, Carriage Barn Arts Center, CCC YMCA, Community Emergency Response Team, Child Guidance Center, CT Challenge, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Fresh Air Fund, Future 5, Inspirica, Kids Helping Kids, Girl Scouts' Merrie Bee Cabin, New Canaan Fishing Fund, New Canaan Cares, New Canaan Historical Society, New Canaan YMCA Kibera, Old Faithful, Person-to-Person, Pesticide Free New Canaan, Pocket Park, Silvermine Arts Center, Summer Theatre of New Canaan, Thorpe Family Residence and YG.
