Kiwanis offering grants to nonprofits

The Kiwanis Club of New Canaan is accepting requests for funding from not-for-profits organizations.

The maximum allocation amount per applicant will be $2,000.

Those interested should submit a letter with the agency name, contact information, mission statement, detailed description of the program, proposed use for funds and amount requested. Explanations should be included about how the organization's mission fits with Kiwanis': "Serving the Children of the World."

The Kiwanis Club raises funds throughout the year with events, including the upcoming St. Patrick's Day dinner Sunday, March 16, and the annual circus, which this year takes place June 21.

In 2013, the Kiwanis Club distributed more than $10,000 in grants to several organizations, including the ABC House, Thorpe Family Residence, the Open Door Shelter, the New Canaan Fishing Derby and Old Faithful.

Requests should be submitted no later than Feb. 28 to Kiwanis Club of New Canaan, P.O. Box 571, New Canaan CT 06840. Attention: Allocations Committee.
