The Kiwanis Club of New Canaan awarded scholarships to Olivia Donner and Emma Gruber, both of whom graduated from New Canaan High School in June.

Donner will be attending the Maine College of Art in the fall, and Gruber is enrolled at Salve Regina in Newport, R.I.

"It's a very worthwhile experience to raise funds for the community, which allow us to offer a limited amount of scholarship money to deserving students each year," said Jerry Miller, Kiwanis treasurer. "We welcome the continued support of our community and corporate partners to enable us to continue this practice each year."

During the scholarship presentation, Kiwanis volunteers also were joined by Lyn Bond, director of the Lapham Community Center. Bond gave an overview of the history of Waveny Park and Lapham and noted that attendance and events have increased dramatically since the center opened in 1996.
