More than $1,000 worth of items were reported stolen from two basement apartments in New Canaan Dec. 12, police said.

Two New Canaan residents, whose apartments are next to each other in an East Avenue basement, told police at 2:36 p.m. they were missing several items from their home, according to police.

The complainants, a 58-year-old female and a 61-year-old male, had two fuel technicians work on their heater earlier that day, police said. The residents said, however, that they stayed with the technicians the whole time, according to the report.

Police said there was no sign of force, but entry was gained. The apartments share the same entrance.
