Residents, family members, friends and members of the community made up the audience of 80 and enjoyed music of the era, along with historical facts of the decade, provided by the Inn Notes' director, Barbara Jeffries.
Songs included such hits as Theresa Brewer's "Music, Music, Music"; Perry Cuomo's "Papa loves Mambo"; Doris Day's "A Guy is a Guy," and the crowd's favorite hit that describes all residents of New Canaan Inn, Frank Sinatra's "Young at Heart."
Accompanied by pianist Ruth Johnson, residents Ron Barlow, Betty Kay and Anne York each performed solos. Other members of the Inn Notes are Betty DeAraujo, Sven England, Mike Franco, Marge Lombardi, Mary Power, Frances Kelly, Rita Price, Catherine Ritchie, Elinor Roll, Margaret Sauerhoff, George Stone, Anne Throop and Muriel Tracy.
Decorations included poodle skirts and a juke box, and residents wore bright-colored clothing and fun and "groovy" hats. The evening was capped off with refreshments that reflected the tastes of the 1950s, including pigs in a blanket, potato chips with onion dip, stuffed mushrooms and an assortment of cheese and crackers. Desserts included tollhouse chocolate chip cookies and petit fours.
