NEW CANAAN — The celebration of a 50-year milestone for the Waveny Park Conservancy was earmarked by a special visit from a celebrity who has a noteworthy role in its history.

Actor Christopher Lloyd, best known for his roles in the TV show Taxi and the Back to the Future films, traveled out from Santa Barbara, Calif., with his wife, Lisa, to take part in a Golden Gala celebration of what was his own house growing up in New Canaan.

“I don’t think I’ve seen so many people at Waveny ever,” said Lloyd, speaking to the crowd of close to 250 about the home his mother, Ruth Lapham Lloyd, gave to the town in 1967.

“I moved here when I was five-years old,” he said, in 1943, noting he remembered the day his mother decided she was going to give the property to the town.

“I don’t know how to thank all of you who’ve participated in the preservation of Waveny,” Lloyd said.

“This continues to be such a precious place,” he said. “I love you all.”
