About 20 local customers of Connecticut Light & Power remained without electric service Tuesday evening after a car hit a utility pole earlier in the day on Old Stamford Road.

At least 750 customers had lost power in the immediate aftermath of the 1 p.m. incident.

Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said power lines fell onto Old Stamford Road between Lapham and Farm roads. That stretch of Old Stamford Road was expected to be closed to traffic until at least 8 p.m., she said.

A CL&P repair crew was on the scene in the afternoon working to restore power. Most affected customers had their service restored by 5 p.m.
