New Canaan is set to celebrate the season as the annual Holiday Stroll takes place Dec. 6 and 7.
Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, the stroll will feature performances on a stage on Elm Street and South Avenue, an ice sculpture, Santa counting down to the town lighting, and a special surprise, according to Tucker Murphy, chamber executive director.
"It's going to be amazing," Murphy said. "We've got a couple new characters -- a snowman and the Grinch. Something new is we're going to encourage children to come dressed as an elf, and anyone who does can be on stage with Santa."
Students from the New Canaan Dance Academy and child actors in Magical Musical for Life will perform Friday, Dec. 6, Murphy said. On Saturday, Dec. 7, Santa Claus will be at Ralph Lauren Children's Store at 115 Elm St. for photo opportunities.
The only issue this year could be parking, as the Town Hall lot is unavailable due to construction.
"We realize that parking could be an issue because of Town Hall, so we're encouraging people to park at the historical society or train lot," Murphy said.
The chamber is also seeking contributions for the $21,000 cost of putting up lights on Main and Elm streets.
"A lot of people think the town pays for this but it is actually the chamber that takes up the responsibility," Murphy said.
