Himmel served as the Democrats' elections chairman in 2012, coordinating headquarters staffing and voter outreach.
As a 21-year resident of New Canaan, Himmel has had a variety of leadership positions around town. She is the immediate past president of the League of Women Voters of New Canaan and was co-chairman of the LWV's Sleep Study Group.
She was appointed by the selectmen to serve on the town's Senior Health Care and Housing Policy Development Team and on the Emergency Medical Services Commission. She also has served as president of the New Canaan Jewish Group and on the board of New Canaan CARES.
"I love the vibrancy of political exchange, and will work hard to ensure that our DTC engages voters and promotes the capabilities of the people who represent the Democratic Party for our town," she said.
"An exciting election season brought in many new faces to our headquarters, creating opportunities for us to expand our outreach and add to the presence established by the many Democrats who already work so hard on issues that affect us all. I'd love to hear from people who are interested in learning more about our activities or getting involved as a volunteer."
She also recognized her predecessor, "a New Canaan native who showed her love for this town and for politics by her diligence and persistence for many years."
Himmel is married and has three college-aged children who attended New Canaan Public Schools. She is a graduate of Williams College; was a Partner of Kekst and Company, a corporate communications agency; and a publicist for Little, Brown and Company book publishers.
