Grade school snowboarder ranked 23rd in nation after Colorado showcase

Sumner Orr, a New Canaan third-grader, came away from competition in the five-day 2015 United States of America Snowboard and Free Ski Association Nationals, held between March 28 and April 3 in Colorado, ranked 23rd in the country in his age group.
In the Olympic half pipe event on day 1, the 8-year-old finished 26th out of 40 boarders in the event, and on the second day he finished 21st out of 50 competitors in the slalom.
In the giant slalom event on the third day, he finished 25th out of 40 kids, and made it to the quarter finals in the boarder cross event.
