Children organizations and youngsters are invited to pick up free kits to craft gingerbread houses, which will be displayed in the windows of New Canaan stores for the launch of the annual Holiday Stroll.
Seventy-five kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family or organization, at the Halstead Property office at 183 Elm St. weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon. The ninth annual Gingerbread House Tour is underwritten by Halstead Property.
"You don't have to be Hansel or Gretel to appreciate the creativity and enthusiasm that our young people exhibit each year when building and decorating their own gingerbread houses," Tucker Murphy, executive director of the chamber, said. "This is a wonderful tradition that our ancestors brought with them to the New World. Keeping it alive is one of the more enjoyable rites of the holiday season."
The houses will be on display in store windows throughout town during the month of December. The Holiday Stroll is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
