The New Canaan Branch of the American Association of University Women will kick off the 2013-14 season at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, with gardening expert Jennifer Cipriano.

The program will take place at Waveny House, Farm Road.

Cipriano will discuss a variety of fall gardening ideas in which she will explore organic practices as well as offer tips on preparing gardens for winter.

She started gardening at a young age with her grandmother. After working for a well-established garden center in Connecticut as a teen, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in horticulture and business at Cornell University. She interned at Denver Botanic and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. She and her husband, Peter, helped operate his parents' garden center on Long Island for 12 years. The family then moved to South Salem, N.Y., to operate their own garden center, Copia Home & Garden.
