Opened in 1981 and acquired by Waveny in 2002, New Canaan Inn is an independent living residence. Most residents are longtime contributing community members who remain active through volunteerism, according to a release.
"Unfortunately, New Canaan Inn itself has not aged as graciously as our residents," Sharon Stevenson, development committee chairman and Waveny board member, said in a release
In a recent analysis, engineers determined that the inn's "bones are in fine shape, but the muscles and ligaments need some attention."
"Refurbishments and renovations will help to maintain the inn's cozy, warm and charming character while fostering an environment that better reflects our commitment to distinctive, dignified senior living," Stevenson said in the release. "Our residents deserve the best in life, especially at home at the inn."
Donations to the annual appeal will make possible replacing the aging roof and chimney, upgrading the air-conditioning system, repairing the outdoor patios and retaining wall, and replacing the outdoor stairs.
"We are delighted that the entire development committee of Waveny is leading our effort this year," Joanne Boyer, director of development, said in the release. "Each of these individuals has been instrumental in reaching our donor constituents and together we can reach our goal. Their continued support is greatly appreciated."
