Former Town Councilman Paul Foley confirmed Friday that he will run for Town Council in November.

Foley, who currently serves as fire commissioner, sat on the council for eight years, from 2001 to 2009.

"I'm very happy to run again and put my name in contention to run for a seat on the Town Council as a Republican," Foley told the New Canaan News. "I think most people who know me or have seen me on TV, they'll see that I'm thoughtful and deliberative and will listen to both sides of any discussion. We may not always agree on our votes but I've never taken any discussion to a personal level and I'm not about to change that now."

Foley also touched on the word du jour: "collegiality." After recent lawsuits against Town Council members, threatened lawsuits, call-ins, and Facebook screen shots, many on the council have bemoaned the lack of collegiality.

"I think it should be a collegial environment and a fun environment, and that's part of what I want to bring back, that camaraderie to the Town Council that's been lacking the last few years."

The Republican Town Committee will hold its caucus on July 16 at 7 p.m. in the Saxe Middle School auditorium.
