The Young Women's League of New Canaan is preparing for its annual fundraiser, "Couture for the Cause," the proceeds of which will benefit a number of charities.

The event, with the theme "Help a Child...Change a Community," takes place from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Loading Dock in Stamford.

The grant recipients will be buildOn, Inspirica, STAR and Blessings in a Backpack via Filling in the Blanks. Each year, the league aligns its charitable giving with an alternating three-year theme based on community, children and women. Local organizations submit grant requests and then the league notifies the major awardees in the fall. The grant amounts are determined in the spring after the fundraiser.

"As we evaluate grant requests," Amy Fields, league vice president who also is the event co-chairman, said, "we confirm that the charities meet this theme in a meaningful way. Our policy is to make grants to organizations with specific and identified needs, rather than make a general contribution to an administrative account."

The models for "Couture for a Cause," a fashion show that began in 2011, will include members of the league members and New Canaan Newcomers and others.

The event raised $32,000 in 2013, and the league's goal for 2014 is $50,000.

Tickets start at $125. For information or tickets, visit www.ywlnewcanaan.org.
