For the first time since 2010, the New Canaan Carriage Barn in Waveny Park will offer two summer art workshops for children between the ages of 6 and 10. The second session will run July 9 through July 12. The first of these sessions was held the week of June 25. Classes for the July 9 session will be held at the Carriage Barn from 9 a.m. to noon.
Lydia Viscardi, the gallery curator, will conduct the workshops.
"We are very pleased to be offering, once again, children's art classes, continuing with the workshops that were well attended when last offered in 2010," Viscardi said.
Children will have the opportunity to experiment with and create art from a variety of media, including oil pastel, wire, paint, and can even get their hands a little dirty with paper-mache.
The workshops hope to inspire creativity in children by exposing them to the art world at hand. Children will also spend time in the Carriage Barn gallery, immersing themselves in the local art culture. They will also learn about specific works of art and artists. Additionally, they will spend plenty of time outdoors, working en plein-air and drawing inspiration from the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
