NEW CANAAN — Caffeine and Carburetors is coming back, at least for the time being.

After announcing a pause for all of 2017 in January, founders and organizers Doug Zumbach and Peter Bush confirmed Monday the auto show would resume on Sept. 17 of this year.

“I initially wanted to take the entire year off,” Zumbach said. “It was my decision and it was entirely my own. The show is so popular, there have been nonstop requests to at least do one show. It was a matter of seeing how quickly and easily we could put it together. And we did it.”

The show — started in 2010 by Zumbach, Bush and Todd Brown — will be held at its original location, on Pine and Elm streets, and will feature classic and vintage cars.

“I think we better defined who we are. We really wanted to emphasize that Caffeine and Carburetors has always leaned toward classic and vintage,” Bush said.

The decision was announced via social media and at the town’s Village Fair and Sidewalk sale on Saturday, where Caffeine and Carburetors had a tent.

“We made up some colorful red balloons that said Sept. 17 on it,” Bush said. “We were able also to meet and greet on Elm Street to announce the resumption. It was very effective, it was fun.”

Bush added that, despite rumors, the event had not been on hiatus at the request of the town because the crowds attending it had gotten too large.

“It was not the town of New Canaan that put the pause on Caffeine and Carburetors. The rumor is that Caffeine and Carburetors was asked to pause. That’s not true. We stopped to just refresh,” Bush said.

Zumbach said that before announcing, he and his fellow organizers sought the input of various town bodies before deciding finally to resume the show.

“Once we decided to look at September, we preceded and got all the necessary permission from the town, we communicated with police and the town government. Everyone was in favor,” Zumbach said.

For local “gearheads,” like Bush, the resumption will be a welcome surprise.

“We’re all excited, it’s going to be spectacular,” Bush said.
