Veteran House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., will not be a candidate for governor.

The 11th term Norwalk Republican, who also represents part of New Canaan, said he wants to spend more time with his family and doesn't want to commit to the all-consuming task of running for the state's highest office.

"It was a very difficult decision," he told reporters outside the Capitol's House chamber, the site of years of his fulminations against majority Democrats. "For me it came down to, frankly, what it did four years ago and that is family."
