Connecticut Light & Power Co. and its employees are prepared for severe winter weather as blizzard conditions are expected to bring several feet of snow and damaging winds to New England, according to an alert on its website, www.cl-p.com.
"All CL&P employees are prepared to assist in the storm response effort and we've secured additional contractor line and tree crews to join forces with our workers," reads the statement. CL&P advises that customers who experience an outage should report it by calling 800-286-2000.
In New Canaan, CL&P serves 8,367 customers.
Additionally, downed power lines should be reported to 9-1-1 as people should assume the lines are energized. Do not go near them and do not drive over them.

CL&P also provides some helfpul hints to be ready:
Prepare a storm kit and keep it handy, including medications.
If you use a generator, follow all safety precautions provided by the manufacturer.
If you, a friend or family member relies on electricity for life-support devices, well water or refrigeration for medications, make preparations now to switch to a backup source or move to an alternate location. It's also a good idea to have a battery back-up for medical equipment.
