A 69-year-old Weed Street woman was almost the victim of identity theft, but thanks to her bank, her money was safe.

An imposter attempted to withdraw $1,800 in the form of a wire transfer from the complainant's bank account over the phone, according to police.

The bank, First Internet Bank of Indiana, called the complainant to check that the request was authentic. When it was discovered that the request was fraudulent, the woman received a new account number and suffered no monetary loss, according to police.
