On Saturday, Aug. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m., Atria Darien will host an art opening and wine reception in honor of featured artist Kenneth Peters. Peters' paintings will be on display through the end of August.
Peters' fascination with art began at 10 years old and has followed him throughout his life in various forms and expressions. While mostly self-taught, Peters became more serious while studying at the university level, where free hand and technical drawing were required for his architecture degree. He began taking elective courses in painting and became interested in photography.
After 30 years in the field of architecture, Peters semi-retired and taught computer skills at a private school. This allowed him more time for his artwork, and time to exhibit and sell his work at the former Santo Gallery in Provincetown, Mass., the New Canaan Library and the New Canaan Society for the Arts. He was also a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists. Commercial clients were independent designers and Sundance Catalog, designing original graphics for several of its products.
For the last few years he has been exploring new materials, methods and subjects. See more of Peters' work at www.brushtips.blogspot.com.
The Gratia Gillespie Art Gallery, located at Atria, 50 Ledge Road, Darien, is free and open to the public daily. For more information, call 203-662-1090.
