Arthur J. Connolly

Arthur J. Connolly, better known as AJ, died March 4 at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla.

Born Sept. 15, 1932, in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was the son of Arthur James and Dora Muldoon Connolly

Mr. Connolly attended Christian Brothers College in Kimberly, South Africa; Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa; and Harvard University, graduating in 1959 with his master's in business administration with emphasis in accounting and finance.

His career took him to Coca-Cola in Atlanta and Tokyo, and later with the pharmaceutical firm Schering Plough.

He was passionate about antiques -- fine old furniture, beautiful porcelain and gleaming brass, silver and the unique oddities of years gone by -- and made that his career later in life.

He lived on Long Beach Island, N.J., where he also ran his shop.

Survivors include his brothers, Patrick in California, and Tom and family of Durban, South Africa; his niece, Amanda Dawson, and family of New Canaan; friends Matthew and Monica McElligot of Durban, South Africa; his goddaughters, Susan and Anne Marie; his friends, Eugene and Lillian Noak; his best friend, Dan Poole; and his two dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Natalie White.

A service was held at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, FL on Monday, April 11. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
