In its 64th year, Art of the Northeast, a regional juried show at the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, draws artists throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic states.

Curated by Andrew Russeth, art critic for the New York Observer and Gallerist and publisher of 16 Miles of String, the show runs through July 26. A reception and awards ceremony will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the arts center, 1037 Silvermine Road.

Best in Show was awarded to Justin Kim, of Long Island City, N.Y. He creates large mixed-media landscapes from a combination of digital images, drawings, memory, invention and abstraction -- ultimately creating an image that mirrors his own experience of the place. "Your work should reflect what you find to be important, beautiful and true -- not only subject matter, but how you work. A painting shouldn't just `represent' something -- it should embody your experience of being in the world," Kim said.

The Silvermine Board of Trustees Award went to Chloe Feldman Eminson, of Lee, N.H.; the Prutting & Co. Custom Builders Award in Painting to Kim Carlino, of Easthampton, Mass.; the Carole Eisner Award for Sculpture to Christina Baril, of Astoria, Queens, N.Y.; the Stephen Madwed Memorial Prize for Photography to Robert Calafiore, of West Hartford; the Mollie and Albert Jacobsen Award for Sculpture to Gina Picirilli-Hayden, of Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.; and honorable mention to Roman Cochet, of New York.

This year saw an increased number of submissions, with 502 artists submitting 3,842 works of art. In total, 31 artists representing seven states were selected. Seven of the exhibiting artists are members of the Silvermine Guild.

A talk with selected exhibiting artists and gallery director Jeffrey Mueller will take place Tuesday, June 24, at 6 p.m.

The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
