At a time when elite car shows in the region rate among the best in the country, the New Canaan Historical Society will put fans on the road for a unique event next month.

The society will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sept. 12 with a tour of the garages of area car collectors followed by an evening gala at Collectors Car Garage in Bedford Hills, New York, a self-proclaimed country club for aficionados.

The event will also include an appearance by actor Patrick Dempsey, who recently made headlines when his “Grey’s Anatomy” character was killed (in a car accident no less). Dempsey will be interviewed at the event by NBC Formula One broadcaster David Hobbs.

“House of Cars Collectors Grand Tour” will begin with a breakfast limited to 100 guests at Miller Motorcars Stamford garage, followed by a display of cars hosted by Wayne Carini of television’s “Chasing Classic Cars.”

A curated tour of private collections will follow, with guests given maps and directions to properties throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties to ensure there are no more than 20 guests at a single location at one time. The evening’s gala at Collector’s Car Garage will be limited to 200 guests and include a live auction.

The event is being sponsored by Miller Motorcars of Greenwich and Chubb-Brown Thayer Shedd.

Tickets range from $500 to $25,000 with an RSVP deadline of Aug. 26. For more information, visit nchistory.org.
