Hassina Sherjan, director of Aid Afghanistan for Education, was recently honored by the U.N. Committee of New Canaan for receiving her master's degree in public policy from Harvard University.

Sherjan joined her close friends, Susan E. Blabey and Shekaiba Wakili-Bennett, along with other members of the U.N. Committee at the home of David and Sue Scannel on Woods End Road.

As the director of 12 girls schools throughout Afghanistan, Sherjan has made a major contribution to women's education there. More than $120,000 was collected from area donors for opening two of those schools, according to Blabey, the AAE fund chairman of the U.N. Committee of New Canaan.
