A man was strapped to a gurney and placed in an ambulance following an accident on East Avenue near Hoyt Street around 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

"A mailman was walking and somehow a truck backed into him," an officer on the scene said, noting that he was unsure of the details. "He complained of an ankle injury, but seemed to be OK."

Four marked police cars and an undercover one, two fire trucks, an EMS vehicle and an ambulance responded. Two officers directed traffic, which was limited to one lane on East Avenue.

A mail truck was parked and unattended on Hoyt Street, not far from the scene of the accident.
