William Henry Wubbenhorst, Jr., a former Rowayton resident, died July 13 in Annapolis, M.D. He was 83.
Mr. Wubbenhorst was born June 16, 1928 in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.
He graduated from St. Paul's Cathedral School in Garden City, NY; earned a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University, Middletown, in 1950; earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1955; also earned an education for ministry degree from University of the South.
Mr. Wubbenhorst was senior vice president at McCann-Erickson in New York City; was an executive with Iriquois Brands in Greenwich; also worked as vice president at PR Data Systems Inc., Norwalk. He was a captain in the US Marine Corps, being honorably discharged in 1959; served on active duty in Korea during the Korean War from 1951-53
Mr. Wubbenhorst was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Darien, where he served on the vestry, the Scholarship Committee and was the founder of the Refugee Committee; was also a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Annapolis where he was an Assistant Director of Camp Allen and also served on the Joust Committee
He enjoyed paddle tennis, golf and tennis.
He is survived by his wife, Arvilla Wubbenhorst, whom he married in 1952; sons Wesley Wubbenhorst of Annapolis, Jeffrey Wubbenhorst of Durham, N.C., and John Wubbenhorst of San Francisco, CA and William Wubbenhorst of Philadelphia, Pa; a sister, Audrey Smith Elias of Wallingford,and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place Thursday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m. at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.
