A pair of accidents slowed traffic along the southbound portion of the Merritt Parkway early Saturday morning.

The first incident occurred just before Exit 58 in Orange around 5:30 a.m. Saturday when a lone car veered off the roadway and into the woods, Connecticut State Police said. Police said that no one was injured in the incident.

Though the accident was cleared quickly by police, traffic piled back to Exit 60 in the interim.

As crews worked to clear the accident in Orange, a second accident further to the south in Fairfield added to the southbound congestion on the Merritt. The three-car accident happened around 5:42 a.m. about a quarter-mile past Exit 44.

Police said that the drivers involved sustained only minor injuries, and no one was transported to the hospital.

The accident took an hour for crews to clear.
