Hot on the heels of Veronica LeDuc's appointment to assistant principal at New Canaan High School, Superintendent Dr. David Abbey also announced the selection of Kristine Reed Woleck as the new assistant principal of East Elementary School. Woleck is replacing Lisa Singer, who was recently hired as principal of Veterans Park Elementary School in Ridgefield.
"We are delighted to have someone of Kris' caliber continue her career in New Canaan and I am certain that she will be a major contributor to the future development of our district," Abbey said.
Similar to how Luizzi and Deluc were appointed, Woleck was chosen by a selection committee chaired by East School principal Alexandra Potts. The committee included Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mary Kolek; Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steven Swerdlick; Director of Special Education Darlene Pianka; South Assistant Principal Matt Kascak and East teachers Danielle Sedlak, Dana Conrad and Ryan Fritz.
Woleck has a bachelor's degree in child studies from Tufts University, where she graduated summa cum laude, a master's degree in leadership and mathematics from Bank Street College and a sixth-year diploma in educational administration from the University of Connecticut.
After teaching first grade for six years in Wilton, Woleck took on leadership positions in mathematics education. Since 2005, she has served in New Canaan as the elementary mathematics coordinator (K-5). Apart from her regular instructional duties, she has held the position of teaching fellow with the United States Department of Education, which has enabled the district to access helpful resources, including those essential to redesigning the district teacher evaluation plan.
In addition to that, Woleck has published articles and a book related to mathematics education. Her first book, Moments in Mathematics Coaching: Improving K-5 Instruction, is a 2010 publication from Corwin Press.
