STRATFORD — A Sikorsky helicopter used to save lives will be making a television appearance on a new Science Channel series.
The Lockheed Martin subsidiary’s S-92 helicopter will be featured on the one-hour debut episode of “Mega Machines” Thursday at 10 p.m.
“Sikorsky is thrilled to participate and show viewers how our engineering and design philosophies are providing the platform of choice to save lives today, all while supporting our founder’s vision,” said Dana Fiatarone, Sikorsky’s vice president for Commercial Systems & Services.
The show will highlight the technology and design of the helicopter that is used for missions including search and rescue and offshore oil worker transportation.
The episode will also feature Canadian aviation company Cougar Helicopters Inc., which operates the rescue helicopters exclusively.
A crew from the Cougar Helicopters will demonstrate search-and-rescue mission scenarios during the episode.
“With a fleet of nine S-92 helicopters, Cougar is proud to tell the story of our use of this powerful and reliable machine to save lives in one of the world’s most demanding environments,” said Cougar Helicopters CEO Hank Williams in a press release.
According to a news release, Sikorsky will be delivering its 300th S-92 to its global fleet earlier this year.
